Physical effort: Low Lateral

The Spoon: the most tender (and one of the wisest)

Sleeping cuddled has an intimate version, and this is it. Maximum body contact with minimal effort: that's why the spoon is a favorite for slow rhythm, pregnancy, and bodies that need rest.

Anatomy and biomechanics

Both in lateral decubitus on the same side, hips aligned in parallel. Penetration is at a shallow angle and no one bears the other's weight, so the lumbar muscles work minimally. The greater the hip flexion (shared fetal position), the greater the opening and depth.

Why this position works

Combines maximum body contact with minimal effort: back pressed against the chest, kisses on the nape, and hands free to stimulate. It's the top position for pregnancy and lower back pain, and the most comfortable for older people or those with limited mobility. Pure intimacy without fatigue.

Variations of this position

1. Elevated leg: open the angle

Like the spoon, with the top leg of the person in front elevated and resting.

The person in front elevates their top leg and rests it on their partner or a pillow. Open the hips and increase depth and freedom of movement without leaving the lateral decubitus.

  1. Start with the classic spoon.
  2. The person in front elevates and bends their top leg, resting it on their partner or a pillow.
  3. Take advantage of the greater opening of the angle.

2. Elevated torso: change the angle

Like the spoon, with the person behind propped up on the elbow, the chest elevated.

The person behind lifts up onto the elbow or a couple of pillows, raising the chest. The axis changes and directs penetration towards the anterior wall, gaining access to kiss the neck.

  1. From the spoon, the person behind lifts up onto the elbow.
  2. The angle changes towards the anterior wall.
  3. Take the opportunity to kiss the neck and talk into the ear.

3. Shared fetal: maximum side depth

Both on their side with their knees very tucked towards their chest, fitted.

Both tuck their knees towards their chest at the same time. Pelvic retroversion provides the maximum possible side depth, keeping the effort to a minimum.

  1. From the spooning position, both flex their hips and knees towards their chest.
  2. The receiver tilts their pelvis slightly to fit.
  3. Adjust the depth with the degree of flexion.

Frequently asked questions

Is it suitable for anal sex?

Yes, it's one of the most recommended for beginners: soft angle and gradual penetration. Always use lubricant.

Why does it slip out with movement?

It's normal due to the shallow angle. Solution: short movements, more hip flexion, or the elevated leg.

Which side to lie on during pregnancy?

The left side is usually recommended, which promotes circulation.
