Anatomy and biomechanics

Frontal alignment plane: the receiver rests in a supine position with a neutral pelvis, and the penetrator is positioned on top supporting their weight on their arms. Depth and angle are adjusted with the legs of the person underneath: the more they raise towards the chest, the greater the depth and more contact with the anterior wall.

Why this position works

It has everything within reach: faces close for kissing, the entire body in contact and an intimacy that's hard to match. It's comfortable, doesn't require strength or balance, and allows transitioning from a slow to an intense rhythm without changing positions. Plus, it's the basis for dozens of variations.

Variations of this position

1. Coital alignment (CAT): more clitoral stimulation

Like missionary, but the partner on top slides forward, resting their chest on their partner's shoulders; the movement is a pelvic rocking.

The partner on top slides their body towards the headboard so that the base of the pubis presses the clitoris with each movement. Replace the back-and-forth motion with a rhythmic rocking that maintains constant contact.

  1. Get into the basic missionary position.
  2. Slide your body towards the headboard until your pubis rubs against the clitoris.
  3. Replace the back-and-forth motion with a short pelvic rocking, keeping the bodies together.

2. The Yunque: deepest penetration

The person on the bottom lifts their legs and rests them on the shoulders of the person on top, who leans forward; hips are very flexed.

The receiver raises their legs and rests their ankles or calves on their partner's shoulders. The hip flexion opens the angle and provides the deepest penetration in this family.

  1. From the missionary position, the receiver lifts both legs.
  2. Rest your ankles or calves on your partner's shoulders.
  3. The person on top leans forward in a controlled manner; adjust the depth.

3. The Butterfly: elevate the pelvis with a cushion

Like the missionary, with a firm cushion under the hips of the person on the bottom to elevate the pelvis.

A firm cushion under the hips elevates the pelvis and tilts the angle towards the anterior wall. Adds depth and G-spot stimulation without effort and relieves the lumbar area.

  1. Place a firm cushion under the hips of the receiver.
  2. Assume the missionary position with the pelvis already elevated.
  3. Adjust the height to a comfortable angle.

Frequently asked questions

Is it good for getting pregnant?

It's mentioned for allowing deep penetration, although no position guarantees conception.

Does it work with a big height difference?

Yes, it's one of the most tolerant: since you're lying down, you just need to adjust the position to align the hips.

Can you do it with a backache?

The person underneath barely bears any weight; a lumbar pillow helps. The person on top should support their forearms well.
